COVID-19 Newmarket Family Court Update
Newmarket Family Court in-person operations remain suspended until at least July 6, 2020
On May 5, 2020, Chief Justice Morawetz issued a further, updated Notice as to the in-person operations of the Superior Court of Justice, which applies to family matters in Newmarket Court as well.
In summary, in-person attendances remain suspended until at least July 6, 2020. In other words, there continue to be no hearings in family court in Newmarket which involve people actually coming to court in person.
The Court continues to deal with matters which are “urgent”, and the specific and very narrow definition of “urgency” continues to apply. Urgent motions and case conferences remain available, at the discretion of the Court. In other words, in order to proceed, these need to be specifically permitted by the Court, based on a detailed triaging procedure.
Contact us if you have any questions about court operations or if you are wondering if your matter is “urgent” within the current definition.
Also, consider family mediation for your issues, whether arising from separation or divorce.
