Pandemic delays updates to Divorce Act
The federal government has delayed the implementation of sweeping reforms to the Divorce Act (Canada-wide law), due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The reforms were initially to go into effect on July 1, 2020, and are now delayed until March, 2021. Highly anticipated by both the family law Bench (the judges) and the family law Bar (the lawyers), the amendments to this important legislation are also seen by many as long-overdue. I will have separate posts on the actual changes coming into affect.
